Managing Stress | Self Improvement | Step 7 – Simple Living and High Thinking

To manage stress effectively and achieve your Goal you should develop philosophy of simple living and high thinking. This is required to manage stress in-between your quest of achieve high goal. First thing is hard to digest and second thing is easy to do, means simple living is hard to digest for human being and in today’s competitive world every one is thinking high. But if you make possible to integrate both thing then you can effectively manage your stress.

Let’s take example that today every one defines their Goal very high and also desires high luxuries in life so what happens if they fail to achieve those luxuries? They would become more stressful. Some people think that their Goal and luxuries both are same things. See if you understand both things in broad perspective then you can able to differentiate between Goal and luxuries. Generally luxuries are by- product of achieved Goal.

Means if your Goal is to be vise president or chairman of your company then when you achieve your goal, luxuries of vise president will come with it. You will get it by default but what happens if you wouldn’t achieve your goal or it would delay? So luxuries you want very much would delay and if you didn’t digest principle of simple living then it would be very stressful for you to live without those luxuries for long time.

To achieve high Goal, you have to take higher risk and what happens if your calculations would be wrong. You would even lost luxuries you already had. If you didn’t digest principle of simple living then it may be extremely stressful for you to loss of luxuries.

Some people tell me in one of my seminars that Sedrik don’t you advise us to be ascetic? Why you emphasize so much on simple living? My answer is, quest of luxuries is one of biggest source of stress and biggest obstacle in path of achieves high goal. It will divert your mind and confuse you about your goal. Luxuries are good as by-product of achieved goal but it shouldn’t be your necessity of life. You should prepare your mind to live with or without it.

If you concentrate lesser on luxuries then you may able to concentrate greater to achieve your goal and enjoy luxuries when they come. You may able to clearly identify your goal and make plans to achieve it single mildly. I know this concept isn’t easy to digest but deeper you think about it better you understand it. Lord Krishna said, “Arjuna, you have work to do. Do it! But give up all interest in the fruit of your work.” Krishna did not say that there would be no fruit. The fruit will certainly be there. Every action has its consequence or fruit. But the fruit is not your concern; you should not aspire for it. Therefore, the essence of Krishna’s teaching is that you must do your duty, but do it without keeping the fruit in mind.
