Exact cause of depression in not clearly understood because there is no single cause of depression. Some types of depression and mantle illness run in families, suggesting that a biological vulnerability can be inherited. You can notice that depression and other mantle disorder generally inherent in family and run in generation by generation this seems to be the most frequent case with bipolar disorder. Studies of families in which members of each generation develop bipolar disorder found that those with the illness have a somewhat different genetic pattern than those who do not get ill. However, the other way around is not true. Other major factors which cause the depression are

  • Over burden of excessive stress is major cause of depression
  • Addiction of drug, alcohol and tobacco can cause  depression or make person vulnerable to depression
  • Person who have low self esteem or who continually feel negative thinking is cause of depression
  • Person who are more prone to pessimism
  • Person who have bad childhood memories
  • Children of divorced couple have seem to tendency of develop depression and one of cause of depression
  • Persons who are over emotional or rigid to change have more chance to expose to depression
  • Major social or financial shock is major cause of depression  
  • Depression is inherited or not but one thing is for sure it is generally related to chemical imbalance in brain or structure of brain is cause of depression
  • Some studies show major physical changes sometimes accompanied by mental illness.
  • Some person are prone to depression in episode like place change, job change or environment change
  • Broken relationship, death of loved one may cause of depression
  • Person who have history of panic attacks or anxiety disorder are seems to expose to depression also and same for other way around

But above are some of cause of depression but it is not that everyone who are exposed to one or more reason mentioned above develop depression.

It has generally depend on person’s family history, his or her way of thinking, taking thing negatively or positively, brain structure of person, thinking pattern of person. Some times we can see that two person gone thru same type of depressive episode but one will normal after some time and other will never be normal.
